Cheat Engine

Just looking for ideas on what may have happened. I downloaded CheatEngine and went to run it, MalwareBytes stopped it saying it was a PuP (Potentially Unwanted Program) I ignored it and figured I'd try again but this time the download failed. So I restarted my PC.

Upon restart my PC is borked as hell. Chrome will not launch, Internet Explorer will not launch, Firefox will launch but all downloads automatically fail no matter where I try to download them, a whole slew of programs stop responding as soon as I launch them, Discord cannot update, Dropbox says it has no permissions and cannot launch, trying to install anything to the root drive results in insufficiant permissions and fails, Task Manager stops responding as soon as it's launched, Start Menu will not open, System Restore fails, Advanced Settings (where the Windows 10 Reset option is) freezes as soon as I try to open it.

I've run scans will AVG, MalwareBytes, and SpyBot. All report no issues.

I'd try reinstalling Windows but I can't download anything or make a boot USB.

I'm at my wits end... Any ideas at all? Thanks.

so you never even managed to download Cheat Engine and your system is broken ? (if so, this is yet again an example of 'protectors' protecting you from ever using your comp)

Tried that, didn't work. Ultimately borrowed a friend's PC to make a boot USB and reinstalled the OS. Today I found several of my accounts compromised and have been trying to get them back under my control all day.

I don't directly blame CheatEngine for this, I've downloaded and used the program before, I know it's not a virus or anything silly like that. Though I wonder if the file I found was somehow the wrong one. Who knows, perhaps the accounts getting hacked and the computer issues after downloading CheatEngine are unrelated and just a massive coincidence.

Been a hell of a day. Hoping I finally have all my accounts back under my control x.x

about the accounts, in what way where they compromised?

Message that your account settings where changed and you're logged out of most places? If so, most google users had that happen yesterday. (that's just a coincidence)

Google loves to spy and so if you login from a new PC or have a new IP, it will send that bogus message about account being hacked.

If you were truly compromised though, can you post where you downloaded CE from? I am curios to know how a malware managed to hack your accounts and see if i can learn something from it. I honestly don't know of any malware capable of that, most are just annoying and these days bitcoin miners designed to turn infected pcs to zombienet (very harmless tho)
