And then they invite me for an interview anyway.
Now I just gotta bomb the interview and I'll be set.

Which firm? Knowing who I am, I'm not surprised I got many interviews at quantitative finance firms but not tech firms so much. It's a matter of "fit" I suppose.

It's a matter of "fit" I suppose. | There's a local company in my area that acts as a middleman to fill in the talent gap of programmers. So you apply if you think you have "the chops", they give you a test, then they interview you, then they start you off with a paid apprenticeship with one of their affiliates where you will learn more in-depth details of what you need to do from a mentor, then after a couple months, you transition into salary. I have no idea where I could be placed.

Well I mean if it's your first job, any experience is good. Getting experience is the priority at this point. Go try web development, mobile development, app development, databases, anything really. They're all development and require you to build things.

Exactly this. I'm not a college grad or anything, so if I can squeeze my way into the tech sector this way, I can fill in the education gap with experience. I'm always working on building a mobile game at the moment, so I'm on it.

All experience is good, but make sure you also get to do stuff you're good at and actually like.
e.g my resume is filled with database related jobs. I'm good at it, but they are sooooo fucking boring. But because of that I got a lot of job offers for database work and hardly any for embedded software development which is what I'm also good at, and actually like (I did eventually get a job in there after rejecting all those database offers)

I'm only just beginning to scratch the surface of programming and all that, so at the moment I'm just learning a little of it all, but I should find a niche I enjoy to specialize in so I don't end up with a field I dislike.
