The only way to avoid this form of corporate monetization of human life, you have to become technologically literate and move to Linux and work with open source developers to get the features you want in your OS. That's the only current solution to this problem we have with Microsoft, Google, and Apple.

It is hard to create and easy to consume. Being creator gives you liberty from Google, Apple and Microsoft but add a lot more complexity in life. Besides. Games youtube and porn are hard to create on your own.

Honestly, Windows 10 has been awesome enough for me to not care. Besides I use Google constantly, don't really have anything left to hide.

Also, I've installed every update since the release and haven't had a single problem with any of the updates.

Me neither. I was always that sucker who bought the game just by looks. I have 378 games on Steam alone and a whole shelf of games DVDs.

i work in I.T. as a computer/network tech and i really don't have a choice other than to use Windows 10 since staying current is my job. my enviornment has roughly 3k/4k users and the administration love it. we're slated to roll it out to all company owned towers in the next year or so (need to test for incompatibility with current software, verify our GPOs work correctly and wait for stuff such as RSAT to get updated/general microsoft fixes)

personally? no complaints. im already being datamined via googles suite of software (google now, google opinion rewards, etc)

Steam makes it pretty much unnecessary. If there's a game where I'm like "hmm, I can't tell if this game is good or not" I just look at the steam reviews and shit. If there's a game that I already know I want, but it's too expensive, I just wait till it's on sale.

Even that's not enough, as no single human has the kind of time required to manage the development of every software component they use. And open-source projects are often just as guilty as the big advertising houses. Consider Firefox, the open-source Netscape Navigator derivative. They have adopted a Chrome-like rapid release cycle and each release adds some horribly invasive phone-home feature that defaults to on (drm hooks, health report, telemetry, crash reporter, OCSP queries, Google page/download blocking, etc). If I were interested in pinging Google with every URL I visit then I would look to some kind of plugin. I wouldn't even expect that kind of behavior from Google's own browser. But, then again, a huge portion of Firefox's budget comes from Google's wallet. That's just one of many examples, but you'll find similarly shady practices in Ubuntu, Redhat, and pretty much all of the flagship open-source projects.

If there's an answer, it is in forward-looking legislation. But it will probably take a few dozen child-murderers confessing that they tracked down their prey using software back-doors or something to break through all the mindless apathy (but Google already knows everything, blah blah blah).
