How would I find the combo counter?

For the game I'm playing, I'm trying to make it so when I attack an enemy the combo counter instantly goes to whatever number I want it to go to, but I'm having trouble finding the address that handles the combo. Any ideas?

Play in windowed mode w/ speedhack on and set CE to pause while scanning, then use hotkeys to execute your scans quickly. Or try to dissect the player structure and hope you get lucky.

Couldn't find anything with scanning. Guess I'll have to do it the hard way.

If the game uses a physics library for collision detection you might be able to get some good clues for reversing from the calls it makes (eg NxScene::setUserContactReport for PhysX). It might very well just make the task harder, though.

Sightly more convenient than that: go to settings->hotkeys and set a hotkey to "pause the selected process". Pressing that key will completely freeze your game it its current state, allowing you to easily do your scans.
However I agree with justa_dude on that fact that playing in windowed mode makes hacking easier.

What scans did you use? Exact value & 4bytes?
If so, also try exact value & "All", or unknown initial & byte and filter with "increased by" or unchanged.

Also if it's not online, what is that game's name?

I did both exact value and 4 bytes, and unknown initial with increased by/unchanged.

And it's... Kind of an online game but not really. But I'll take the benefit of the doubt and not say the same.

Edit: I managed to find the address the handles the combo, there are also a few other addresses that change with it. I can set the combo to be at whatever I'd like, but I don't get any bonuses from the combo. For example, 2x score, 3x score, 4x score, etc.

If the game can be played without internet and/or lan connection it is fine.

Maybe the game works that way: "If my combo counter is exactly 99 and I hit once more, the increase score factor by 1". Try to lock your combo counter to the threshold-1 (99 in my example) and see in score factor changes.
Or you did not find the correct address, it is frequent to have a "displayed" variable that is just a copy of the one the game actually uses for computations (which might use a different datatype). Then again you said "there are also a few other addresses that change with it" so maybe you found the all.

But actually, hacking the score factor itself would likely be simpler.

Also what was the datatype for combo counter after all? And its relationship with was is actually seen ingame?
