ok ive hit a wall lol ... ive done everything up to manually adding address and pointer and the new address has come up in the lower list with the P->xxxxxxx ... the tutorial at this point says to freeze it .... what does that mean and how do i do it? ....

Tick the active checkbox on the left.

It can only be ticked if the P-> is valid though

Dude in step six you have to find pointer and freeze it so that you can change the value to 5000(mentioned in tutorial).
1.find value of address
2.find out what writes to that
3.after finding click on more information
4.There will be a code given to you
5.type that code in value bar
6.search for it and also check hex box
7.after finding that address double click it
8.then click add address manually
9.check pointer box
10. then enter pointer's address there . click OK
11.after finding check freeze box(as Dark Byte said).
12.change the value.
13.you are done
