watched it a couple nights ago, it's really good but despite having an engaging concept and a unique twist on "zombie" movies there are times in the middleish that I felt were sort of filler

Two opinions based on whether or not you have read the book:

-If you have read the book-
The movie was a massive disappointment.
The Zombies themselves were too "violently retarded" in that they were too rabid and their "pack" mentality of mobbing the living was a bit exaggerated and reminded me too much of a mound of ants.

The story itself strayed heavily from the books. It was too centered around the main character's "quest" for a cure and to find out what the disease actually was, and it skipped out on a lot of key scenes from the books. (Example, the part where the US Army gets their ass handed to them at a city because they don't realize that modern weapons and explosives aren't really all that useful. And another key point that was completely ignored was the mass murdering of the living population to control the undead population)

There was too much focus on a cure, and the cure itself was over-exaggerated in importance. Also, they added too many filler characters to the main character's plot that really didn't serve any use whatsoever.

-If you have not read the book-
It's a good drift away from the generic zombie movies and it's a decent adaptation on human populations and zombies. The main character's "quest" and character was a bit unrealistic and they never really explain who or what he is, but it's easy to follow along with him.

For a moment, this felt more like a movie adaptation of left4dead when you look at the zombies and their "style," as well as how the main character moves about the story.


Overall, it's a decent zombie movie, but it could have been toned down a bit. The zombies and their pack mentality felt ridiculously overexagerated and the initial outbreak scene in the movie came out of nowhere. They didn't go into detail about how it all began, and they spent too much time on how it would all end. I guess the strength in the resolution made up for the vagueness of the problem itself. Good movie, could use some work though.
