I'm looking for a little guidance, because I'm out of my depth with a particular modding problem.

I'm working with a game called R.A.W. (Realms of Ancient War), and I'm attempting to locate & alter the value for available skill points.

Now, I was able to run a search using the "All" parameter, and locate 8 different addresses linked to this value. However, when I change this value it immediately reverts back. I froze all 8 addresses & did the same thing, but what I'm seeing is the value flickers back & forth between the original value & the altered value.

It's possible that I missed an address or two - but is it also possible that the game itself is constantly resetting that value? If so, is there a way to bypass this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The flickering means the value you found is the display value used to render to the screen instead of the actual value

It's possible the value is stored differently than it's displayed.
For example stats of a player in a rpg tend to be stored as a basevalue + modifier.
Where basevalue is the value you had at level 0 , and the modifier the number of points you spend on the specific stat when leveling up.
So lets say that at level 0 you had 2 strength, and by leveling up you now have 10 strength, that means the real value would be 8

Also, health is sometimes stored as amount of damage taken, instead of amount of health left.
So if you have 200 health max, and are at 190 health, it's stored as 10

And if all else fails, try changed/unchanged scans

Sounds reasonable.

In this particular situation, you get 3 skill points at level 1, which are assigned to specific skills. As you level up, you get an additional skill point per level. What I'm searching for is the address that stores the value of the amount available, unused skill points.

So if I have 3 available skill points, then I would actually have 6 points. However, when I spend one of those skill points, I still have a total of six.

Maybe what I need to do is start at level 1, with a value of three, and then see if I can locate an address that increases by one with each skill level from there.

I'll give those ideas a shot & let you know how I made out.

Search for the remaining :
Search for 3
Spend a skill point
Search for 2
Spend a skill point
Search for 1
Spend a skill point
Search for 0

Or maybe try looking for used skillpoints :
Spend a skill point
Search for 0
Spend a skill point
Search for 1
Spend a skill point
Search for 2
Spend a skill point
Search for 3
