If you unlock the phone (which is legal for Windows phones) you can install non-marketplace apps.
You can unlock your phone two ways:
- Be a developer, pay $99 for a license and obtain the ability to unlock it.
- Go to http://www.chevronwp7.com/ to unlock your phone.
chevronwp7 is partnered with Microsoft if you have any concerns. Microsoft isn't being 'homo' about people unlocking their phone. You have to pay a small fee (I think it was like $7?) but you can unlock it without Microsoft going nuts at you or you losing support etc.

Ah, so they have. I'm sure someone else will release their own unlocking tools sooner or later then.

i used a windows phone once, yeah, i like it's UI too... you can say it is smoother than android's... BUT, i haven't got to know it that well and already spotted some idiotic OS inconveniences... once you tie the phone to a hotmail account, you cannot 'untie' it anymore... meaning if you wanted to switch to another account, you must reset the phone to factory defaults and do it over again... i found this very interesting and odd...

Another fun fact is that if you upload nude pictures of your girlfriend to your online storage, you will lose your hotmail account and all online functionality of your phone
