Here's my delema: I tried to open the versions I had on my computer (5.6 & 6.1) but neither would show their window (they would show up on the toolbar, but nothing else) so I tried to download another version (6.2) but my norton believes that it is dangerous and DELETES IT IMMEDIATELY

I've tried everything I can except removing norton (because it has been a pain in my ass every time i try to do anything with it and I lost the codes to reactivate it)

any suggestions?

Please contact norton and ask them to remove the detection (false positive)

Or try refreshing the download page till you see a download path with /d2/ in it. Perhaps the secondary installer works better
Or get the .rar without installer

Try redownloading ce. I stripped out the linux server binaries which might have signaled the heuristics scan by norton (it opens a port, so it must be dangerous...)

I do not understand why file from the www*chip*de (official partner CE) dont have a virus, but file from cheatengine.org have it (?!). These are the same files (setup *. Exe v6.1) but norton have problem only with file from CheatEngine. Someone can explain it. Thanks for CheatEngne team - an excellent job.

Delete norton. Get a new antivirus.

Cheatengine is definitely safe.

You expect to trust information norton gives you on a program, norton detects everything as a virus.

There are multiple installers (d1/d2)
Chip has a version of the d1 one

Also, I sometimes make small fixes for the most major bugs that I encounter and don't feel like making a whole new version
And other times it's just a minor installer update like changing an e-mail address , url's etc...

e.g with 6.2 I changed the installer a week after release because some av's where bitching about the linux server binaries that came with it

As for norton saying stuff: Perhaps part of it's detection is checking the download url and chip.de being a well trusted site they lower the heuristics on that.

Also, look up what the specific virus is that it is detecting. Perhaps it's not a virus (e.g CheatEngine.Hacktool isn't really dangerous)

I love how AVG says there's a virus, then doesn't give me any threats when I scan it...

cheat engine is not a virus , trojan , worm from any kind
kspersky 2012 updated says it's clean 100%

sorry to bump and old thread. But I don't have any AV installed at the moment, but CE still doesn't want to open.

I've tried closing down steam, other games, and a clean install/reboot. While removing windows firewall.

I feel like I'm missing something.

Perhaps you downloaded cheat engine from a fake site, or you are infected with an .exe infecting virus that doesn't play well with ce
Try this url: http://cheatengine.org/temp/CheatEngine62.exe the installer and the files inside are digitally signed. You can check that to see that you have an untampered version

Also, there are 2 versions, 32 and 64 bit, try them both if you can

And all I got was a bunch of Adware and Malware installed without my permission.

Something called Sweetpacks and SweetIM.

I wanted to use and support this program but if the makers just want to use and support Malware then forget it!
