Are archers good?
I basically don't know what I'm doing just following the story without having any idea how to build a character properly..

At first:
Melee everything

Then:
Decide what you wanna be

Hint:
Mages suck

Other hint:
Be a melee + archer (Have armor and weapons for both)
Enchanting + Smithing, level that ASAP, you can OP yourself (But you'll get bored of skyrim because it's too easy :\)

I pretty much used 2h swords & bows my first play through. Seems to be a pretty popular choice for most people, the whole 'melee + ranged/sneak' n such. The magic system is pretty dry though. It's fun & cool at first, but gets hella old really fast. I'd recommend using some mods if you plan on using any magic other than restoration.

I was the water breathing lizard in Oblivion. I want to get Skyrim but I would get that character if he is available! I was also a mage, and mages are pretty good, or seem to be at least.
