I'm not too hardware-savvy, so this question may seem stupid to you guys, please bare with me:

Okay so, I have 4GB DDR2 RAM in my laptop, and I'd like at least 6 if that's plausible. I'm hoping that will help out with lag from Minecraft (yes I've adjusted settings it still lags a bit however.)

I've looked from Crucial and I have their RAM recommended for my laptop (Acer Aspire 5735.) Minecraft is really the only game I play, I normally just do a bit of programming (lol) and watch Youtube, etc. Do you guys think that will help? Also is my laptop compatible with that much RAM and where can I purchase it? Thank you.

4gb ram is plenty to play minecraft, you could even get away with 2gb, it's the cpu and gpu that mainly affect performance.
I've got a shitty latptop with a 2ghz p6 and 4gb ram (no gpu) and I get 30fps in minecraft through tweaking.

Its javacraft so your cpu is probably throttling.

I got a 170u cpu, 2gb ddr3 and a 5570 gpu here it runs most modern games on medium to high settings. I've got minecraft too and runs fairly well. How well? roughly 30fps-80.

If you have more than 2-4GB of ram you aren't gonna see a difference in games. More ram does not equal more performance in games. Minecraft doesn't really need anything. It's your graphics card mostly. Well, you don't actually have a graphics card. Try updating your intel graphics drivers, although you probably might not see a difference. Get a new computer (which is not worth getting just for Minecraft).

You should try getting optifine mod for minecraft and tune down the settings to what suits your fps needs. Worked for me and my laptop and actually boosted minecraft performance by some percentages (I wouldn't say significantly, but it boosted the block rendering and the fog too.)

If your system is 32bit you can't get more than 4gb of ram anyways. And to get MC to really run smoothly a nice processor is key. In task manager you can also set its priority to high or realtime , which gives the process more of your pc's resources .Also make sure under affinity that all your cores are ticked.

how so ? each block is made of 18 triangles , there can be a few thousand boxes visible to the camera , that is less than a million triangles , a shitty card can pump that out. now if MC uses the GpU for processing then sure a nice graphics card would be better , but it doesnt , it relys 100% on the cpu.

This. Optifine easily can turn MC from unplayable to playable on a weak laptop.
