Hi guys,

I came here looking for ways to get data written to memory.

My overall aim is to get the text displayed in a custom display control, where usual gettext calls or even sending keystrokes/clicks will not be able to copy the data shown.

My first thought was OCR because that is simplest I assume but I found it to be not as reliable as I need it to be.

So my next step leads me here, where I want to

scan a process's base memory addresses and region size (VirtualQueryEx).
choose a listed memory region and read the data to a console window (ReadProcessMemory) in a hexadecimal or character format.
search all of the process's memory for a given string (converts string to decimalization and searches for matching sequence), and then return some number of following bytes when a match is found (in hexadecimal or character format).

Now, one thing I do know about the program I'm trying to gather data from is that the data is allocated dynamically to memory, so in the event that I can even acquire this data I'll need to be able to be able to somehow piece it back together.

Ideas? Suggestions? If I'm barking up the wrong tree and you think there's a simpler method please share!
