CCleaner also has one built-in, which I consider much cleaner and easier to use than msconfig.

If you have Spybot, Search And Destroy, they have one built-in too which is also much cleaner and easier to use, and many also come with descriptions on what they do.

FullyAwesome mentioned the most popular. You can also try other things. Edit the Registry (only for advanced users) you can google for more info on registry editing startup programs. You can also simply goto Start | All Programs | Start Up and remove some programs from there.

The method I most like is editing the registry and also using the Services Manager to specify services to start manually instead of automatically.

For what you wish to do stick with the easiest method. It's alot more forgiving than other methods. MSCONFIG

msconfig is known for being a faggot in Windows XP. If you're using Windows 7, I recommend it. In Windows XP, I recommend software from thousands of vendors such as Revo and CCleaner that allow you to edit the startup.
