Just curious, is that site similar to like ebay or something?
You can go to Lenovo Phillippines site and in there there are tons of
notebooks for you to choose from.
From what I see, them IdeaPad are a good choice.

Another are Toshiba which what I mostly prefer.

Well you see... the x220's battery life is just unmatched by any laptop I've ever seen.

http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-x220.aspx?page=3

It's the actual deal maker for me. I just wanted to know which one would do better in situations I'd want but I'll just give up on the Maya idea since I couldn't find an alternative that could have this much life.

And I'm already buying from somewhere like that.
If I bought from lenovo I would get something with i5, 4gb ram and 160gb hdd for about 70k php (1600$) as opposed to having the i7, SSD installed and the additional 4gb stick installed aswell for (2100$)

If I were to buy an SSD from here with 160gb and additional 4gb stick would add about 600$ from here.
Alot of things here are overpriced

Your just looking at that huge 16 hours battery life without looking at the fine details.

According to the review you posted as well as others I've seen, the 6 cell last about 7-8 hours tops.
The 9 cell battery last around 12 hours.
To get that magical 16 hour battery life, you will need 2 batteries.
The 9 cell + Battery Slice, which is a battery pack that is docked below the
laptop. This will add some thickness to it.

So if that 16 hours requires two batteries, how can that deal you posted
achieve 16 hours with just a single 6 cell? Even if it's got a SSD
and Core i7 are more power hungry than Core i5, I doubt that SSD can push the puny 6 cell over to that "magical" battery life.

I'm not that retarded. I very well know what I'm reading.
It adds thickness? I don't mind if I receive better life in return. The 9 cell alone could have served me quite well and I could just get the slice if I don't get enough out of it.

In all actuality, I was saying 16 hours because I was planning to get 9 cell battery + battery slice.

Sadly, the laptop's really expensive. I've just searched a whole bunch of ultraportables and they all benchmarked 6 hours and below battery life.
and SSDs increase battery consumption Sad? Is the i7 dual core THAT much power hungry that it takes away 5 fucking hours away compared to the i5?
Soo I should take the i5 version instead? the i7 has usb 3.0 though o-o not sure if it matters much.

anyway, would you have gotten a toshiba ultra-portable instead of this? why? I'd really love to see a specific model you would rather get over this. You seem to be very opposed with me getting the x220, this kinda makes me think that I'm doing the wrong purchase.

I know the budget is a bit high. I was willing to spend that if it means not having to be plugged but the only ultraportables that caught my eyes were this, m11x, MBP (not really an unltraportable) some Asus ULseries which I forgot.
I'm really open to suggestions so fire away with good ultraportable laptops.

Would I get the Toshiba instead of the X220?
In a heart beat because
1. Most OEM that uses SSD don't always put in the best like Intel, OCZ, Crucial and so forth.
Got a chance to play with 2 types of ultra portables, one from Sony and the other Toshiba, both weight about 2lbs (0.9kg), have SSDs, and cost $3000 USD. Performance wise on the SSD ran like crap and saw no benefits over regular HDD. All they did is just slapped SSD in your face & jack up the price. Hey, SSD is suppose to make the machine blazin fast isn't it?
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Why-is-X220-s-built-in-SSD-so-slow/td-p/441151

2. It has a better graphic card, not because for the sole purpose of Maya, but to give extra boost to all applications including the OS itself as Windows 7 runs in 3D mode not 2D like XP. It also doesn't share system memory as it has its own dedicated VRAM. And lastly most sites and so forth support GPU acceleration which taps into the GPU when watching supported HD clips.

3. Don't believe in that long battery life as there is always a catch as for
the X220 you need to battery packs to achieve it, plus some other changes like you need SSD. Be happy if the laptop you get will last 6-8 hours as in the past people are amazed if their laptop can top out at 2 hours.

You can check out some netbooks with dual core Atom with Nvidia Optimus. And that Alienware m11x is a solid pick.

I see. Would you rather get the m11x or the m14x? They're both available at the 2000$ price range. This brings the ASUS UL50Vf and Acer Timeline X to my attention again.
The Alienware rises till 4 hours at most. Just as much as a macbook pro I guess.

edit: Nevermind the m11x had problems with hinges and the screen is glares everything too much for outside use. It's not really built for outside use compared to the x220 (military standardized). Plus the display isn't really impressive. (huge factor)

The IPS monitor is a huge plus and I don't need a decent GPU. I think I'll settle for a lower version x220, and buy a seperate SSD to solve the SSD problem and again, the battery is something I want. Sure it needs external things but most laptops don't come with those.
And yeah... IPS monitors. Just saw alot of videos about them, and it would be perfect for me as I need near perfect colors for photo retouching and cell shading.

.-. already having problems with my displays now, too much blue and too much red on the other.

Most laptop are not meat for out door due they use a glossy screen.
The X220 uses a matte screen and it's not a military standard.
In the past all laptops have matte screens.

If you want to get the X220, then there is nothing to stop you, but for SSD, you may need to do some modding. It supports only 2.5" @ 7mm height.

I was going to get the m11x but screen was too shiny and I found that the hinge fucks up enough to break your screen.
The m14x was too heavy though. After much debate. I don't need something with a decent GPU. I forgot I already have my other machine for that.

also for military standard, I mean the ruggedness. Thinkpad's ruggedness meets military standards and they're not even trolling like most advertisements.
http://www.lenovo.com/news/us/en/2009/02/rugged_computing.html

I'm still looking for other IPS matte screened laptops that are about 12-14" big though. No luck.

For the SSD. I guess I might. Good thing lenovo shows you how to open the laptop. I don't even break my warranty for doing it.

anyway, I appreciate all your help. Made me less unsure about why I actually wanted the x220. Will try to find alternatives while I'm still not buying it though. I will soon enough.

If you're not too picky, Asus has several laptops with great battery life as well.
