| What ? I hope that is just applicable for your laptop.. And also sounds like there's a big flaw in its design if it's as crap as you're making out.

Yeah I bought this dv7 for $1000 a few days ago and now it's on sale for $750. I had the dv6 and it could switch just fine between integrated and radeon, this one has no option to do so. The i7 and integrated hd still gives a kick ass gaming performance, so far I've run crysis and re5 on ultra settings at 900p, but I'm still returning it and probably getting a desktop.

In other words, if you want to watch a movie or game on the laptop, the card will be useless and you're stuck with integrated.
In order to actually use the card you need to physically connect it to a monitor.
Stupid. |
whaaat are you talking about?
this is definitely not how the card itself functions and it almost sounds like you haven't installed drivers or something on your system.

Obviously the graphics are switching automatically.

I take back everything I said.
It's switching automatically.
Which is a pain in the fucking ass.
The dv6 would ask you if you'd like to switch and give you the option to switch anytime manually, now they took the entire interface notifications and settings for the entire switchable graphics out and don't let you change settings for the radeon or even update the drivers.
It was pretty scary but now I'm keeping this laptop now that I know what's up.
I spoke with a manager at HP and figured it all out, since it's a brand new laptop there's no support for it or anything but he said I can expect an update that will be like the old dv6 so I can manually switch graphics.
Although the card itself for whatever reason still only supports 720p, that's just on its own, somehow it can work together with the intel graphics to blow up to whatever resolution or something, I didn't really get what he said.
Long story short it's a great card, but why on earth would you get a mac?
Like what the fuck.

| The point is that Apple stuck a mobile GPU into a desktop machine. Not to mention overpriced as fuck.

This. I was thinking this thread was about some huge fucking laptop for the longest time until I realized it was an iMac and not MacBook.
Then I shat bricks.

Get the $2000 one instead if you really want to buy a mac . |
I already thought long and hard about this. I'm not just gonna 'get the $2000' one considering all the shit I've considered just because it has a slightly better graphics card. And I'm already paying $2000+

It runs freaking slow on VMWare even on my machine in my other house which has 16GB RAM and 8 cores. I also tried installing the billions of other versions on PC last year and wasted a very frustrating 3 months downloading 8GB ISOs after work and attempting to install them and finding always something or other wrong. Maybe internet won't work, maybe it'll crash randomly, maybe it'll only use 1 core of the machine and make it slow.
$2000 is a price I'm prepared to pay to rid myself of that frustration.

| Runs fine with Windows machines. I'm not sure if it's not designed to run Mac and doesn't do some optimisations ? I have no idea. I understand the technology to install Mac on PCs has gotten a lot better since last year but still I'd rather not go through it when I can simply throw out a few thousand dollars and rid myself of the hassle. Mac arriving next Tuesday. Pretty excited ; )

W7 runs flawlessly on vmware for me, don't see why OSX wouldn't. Hardware acceleration even works fine, I played a few games without a hitch.
I just throw like 1.5gb and 2 cores at it and it's good. I was also surprised to find that W7 would boot with a mere 256mb of memory without problem.
