I'm currently looking for a cheap music player and I'm just wondering if the shuffle is worth buying. It looks cool and I don't think I'll be needing to hold 1000+ songs. One obvious downfall is that there is no screen.
For people against Apple, could you recommend anything else around $50?
Edit: Forgot to mention size! Bulkiness=No

I know you said your budget was $50 but for $100 more you could get an 8 gig nano with screen.

I've got a 1 gig shuffle, and my worst problem with it is that you can't see what song is playing. Also when loading songs into iTunes certain songs it will crop. Not the same song everytime either, but at least a dozen out of several hundred will be shortened.

You can't triple a budget and expect it to still be okay. That is not worth the price for what he wants, especially with it being 8GB.

I think there are a lot better mp3 players on that range than an ipod shuffle. If you get to use one, you will think twice about its build quality, though some would say that the brand itself is already guarantee. There are some Creative mp3 players that are on that range with better sound quality and sports an lcd screen.
But others would still go for the ipod even there are a lot better hardware out there. That's the thing with consumerism. Brands have played a huge role in selling absolutely anything.
