| The 4chan community is full of hot air. A handful of pretty damn good hackers who MAYBE browse 4chan have been giving Sony a hard time. That's my hypothesis.

eh "anonymous" in this incident are just people who browse /b/
1 people who just browse /b/ for fun(in this category newfags and oldfags alike also cancer)
2 what I like to call fake-anonymous(the anti-scientology hippies who don't do anything illegal or go to raids)
3 real anonymous tightly woven network of anti-scientology hackers who are pretty serious but I don't think they have anything to do with sony
I think that the ones who hacked Sony weren't from 4chan, and nor do I believe they revenged that geohot guy. Since they stole credentials and shit I believe they did it for profits and if not, then for shits and giggles.

If you were a hacker aware of a group of people known as "hackers" and that they already had a bad reputation, wouldn't you use them as a scapegoat?

This is a very good point. The people who hacked PSN aren't idiots, we know that because they hacked PSN.

what do you mean as a scapegoat? how will claiming to be anonymous alter anything? you can't punish anonymous as a whole, and it's not like sony is going to believe that every single person considered "anonymous" would be a viable culprit. It really isn't going to change anything. It just adds a face, true or false, to the hacker(s).
