There's something wrong with my cd/dvd drive. I don't know when this occurred because I rarely ever use it. There is power to it, but it doesn't show up in Explorer. If I pop in a disc nothing happens. Any ideas?

Make sure the data cable is properly attached first? Does it show up in Device Manager?

I do see something under disk drive, but it might be a virtual drive. The is something in "Other Devices" but it's unknown, so I'm guessing it might be my dvd drive? There's nothing else.

Do you have any games that run StarForce DRM? That software a few years back was known for killing drives. The symptoms would be that the burn speed got slower over time till the drive no longer worked. Was about 5 years back. May not have the same bug today as it did back then.

Have you totally disconnected the drive, booted to Windows, clean shut down, then reconnect the drive and log back into Windows?
Could also right click on My Computer and select Manage. Make sure your drive is selectable from here, and there may be an option to "Show" in the settings here somewhere. I have had to do this with hard drives before.
Does it show under Device Manager? When you first boot up and your Bios goes through it's detection is the drive found there?

I haven't turned off my computer in a while. It doesn't show up under device manager, but there is something under unknown devices, I'm guess that's the dvd drive.

Go to bios & see if the drive syncs up at all. If it doesn't - unattach cables, fire the comp up fully, shut down - attach cables & try again.
You can use Everest to see what the unknown device is, if it is your dvd drive - uninstall through device manager & reboot.

I can not tell you how many things have been fixed by a simple reboot.
That being said, no one is to blame but you if your parts deteriorate because you never let them rest.
I don't believe you should get any help until you try shutting down.
