http://www.spyville.com/motion-sensor-dvr-recorder.html

Not sure your budget, but this is the whole shebang, one camera doesn't say night vision range and I didn't really read the specs on the dvr don't know if it's ip addressable.

You do of course know you can bypass them with a few infrared leds from radio shack right?

If it's for your mom, have her pick based on what she wants to spend.

First you have to find out how many camera you need at the cafe and decide on whether you need outdoor or indoor. Most outdoor can be used indoors so it doesn't matter. Another thing to look at is whether you want night-vision. Night-Vision camera will have IR lenses (small bulbs surrounding the camera lens) and like all of them security camera you can either choose dome or bullet.
Dome camera are those you see at department stores located on ceilings like a "black ball". And bullet are those you see at banks or outside of buildings.
Next is the DVR system itself and it's better off you get a standalone as they are easier to maintain. Also no worries on virus infections as that is one of the cons PC based version will encounter when something goes wrong.
Standalone DVR starts with 4 Channels so if you're planning to install more cameras in the future, you need to get one that will have more channels since standalone are not expandable. If you ran out of channels you will need to buy another set.
Most modern DVR will use H.264 and take a look at one with Ethernet support so you can view your cafe in a remote location.
For easier remote access you will need a static IP for better usage and less hassle compared to dynamic IP.
Camera will also need power and you will need BNC/power cables to run the length of the entire store. Each camera will need its own power adapter and BNC/power cable. Thus for power some will get a power box, where you just need a single power cord while the pigtails are installed into the power box connecting to the individual cameras.
One last thing is depending on what place you live, some place disallow audio recording so check out the laws in your area and what are the requirements if you want to record audio.
