Not for a laptop. It will throttle its performance until it bsods. It wont just shut down right away. |

But as long as we're on the subject of AMD, lets get one thing clear shall we? AMD is a poor peoples brand. It's like wearing clothing from either Armani or the Gap: sure both will keep you warm, but one just feels so much better than the other. And poor people will keep telling themselves that what their wearing is just as good. No, it's not. I would list the myriad of reasons I've listed in the past, but I suggest you just look my posts up.
NVidia > AMD
Intel > AMD
But I admit I did buy an AMD recently: I'm building a small home server and due to them being the only one selling a quad core that is able to run on 65W, and being dirt cheap, I decided to just do it. Because that's the only time you should buy an AMD-anything: when you're hardly ever going to use it. You want real performance: get the real brands. |

Actually, ATIs good, and AMD did 3DNow! before any MMX extensions. Just because you don't like them, doesn't mean that they aren't good. They compete with Intel and NVIDIA for a reason.

Are you honestly claiming here that AMD is competing with Intel & NVIDIA because of the quality of their products? No, they compete because they offer similar (although certainly not identical) products at a cheaper price. It's like saying the Wii sells better because it produces better graphics than the Playstation 3. Null and void argument in my book. |

Sorry, missed this reply. Also, I'm saying AMD is a legitimate competition to Intel (also, last I check, NVIDIA is a separate corporation in regards to Intel, check their stock reports). AMD pulled 3DNow! first, before Intels MMX, then Intel followed suit. Thats not to say AMD hasn't copied Intel, it's simply to say they have provided innovation on the electronics front, and aren't simply a cheap knock of. Also, AMD owns ATI, with AMD specializing in processor\microelectronics and ATI specializing in semiconductor\GPUs. What does this mean? This means that ATI and AMDs work is transparent to each other, and you get more cross-domain knowledge exposure. Intel does not own NVIDIA, all they do is work together in mutual benefit.
Also forgot to mention, gogodr, you're retarded for writing Intel | NVIDIA > AMD, what the fuck does NVIDIA do in the ways of central processing units? I'll give you that they do GPU architecture better (their Tesla units kick ass from what I've heard).
