|
|
Hello /Computer Talk/,
I'll be having an informative speech on the topic
How to choose a Laptop. Circulating on getting the most
out of your money.
Any tips for the info I'll be giving out? Stuff to keep in mind
and stuff?
I plan on explaining to them the importance of the parts, why some laptops
are more expensive than the other and so on.

Well, let's start with a few things:
Online direct from the manufacturer is always cheaper than buying from a store (the store have high labour cost as well as high cost for holding stock).
"Prestige" parts. The luxury stuff that is more expensive and less value for money (Nvidia over ATI, Intel over AMD, Corsair over Great Wall etc.)
"Prestige" companies (Sony).
You pretty much get what you pay for with laptops, they are easier to choose than desktops because they don't have so many options.
This all assumes you are not including Apple computers into your informative speech. If you are, please indicate that.

I will indicate it and put an argument that it may be defined as a different race of computer but once out of it shell. It still has the same hardware as the laptops not made by apple.
It's going to be hard opposing Apple since my class is a Multimedia Arts class where in Macbook Pros are important in a way.

I recognise Mac's have a useful application in Multimedia, and some people do prefer them for their own reasons.
It is all the same, the only difference is looks and software, so you could make a point to say it's only personal preference...
If you are discussing Apple don't forget to talk about propriety shit.

Okay. Thanks alot.
And it's not only the applications that are useful. Our professors literally scare the shit out of us that if we're not familiar with Macs then we'll be fucked once we graduate. So yeah; most students in our country with the same course are like attached to Mac.

Sorry for going slightly off topic, but which country is this?

What do you mean by importance? All parts are required for functionality, but do you mean which parts more should be invested in?

It's just like a computer, it depends on your budget. Low price brands have low quality components.
You don't really have to worry about things like a good PSU so you don't screw up all your stuff etc.
Laptops are really quite easy to choose, the price is almost parallel to the quality. With the exception of Netbooks (e.g. the AlienWare M11x).

The only hard thing in choosing laptops for me, is that when you get an "awesome" laptop with amazing graphics or something like that, the battery is completely drained. So its hard to find a powerful laptop without battery being crap. So battery life is more important then certain things.

People are noobs.
The first thing you should be asking is, "What will you be, or potentially be, doing on the computer."
Say you buy it and it's either so unnecessarily powerful that you've wasted $500 on uselessness, or added functionality that you simply will not use. There's also the other way of you buy something and it's sub-par, having the point of buying it in the first place lost.
>pc salesman/technician
I can write you up a guide on what to look out for with certain things if you want (I'll stay away from brand names unless they support certain things other's don't).
Also, MAC. Boot camp mother fuckers. Best of both worlds get.

Why would you even want to use OSX when you can use W7, and vice versa.
It's aimed at completely different crowds.
Plus, when buying a laptop, just get the cheapest one with best CPU and GPU. The HDD and RAM can be updated later easily, whereas those two stick with you for life.

You're being a knob.
I have a computer that runs OSX, only use it for graphics and the like.
However, when I have friends around and we want to play League of Legends together, I just simply boot it into Windows and we have another computer to use. You seem daft, Arcane.
A lot of software doesn't work on the other OS. Maybe the user is using the computer for work? -_-

If this is the only computer the user has, the HDD can't actually be upgraded easily. Disk imaging in thin air... Sounds possible.
"What do you mean Mr. Computer when you say -No Operating System Found-!?"
99% of users aren't as computer literate as you and I.

Yeah, because serious art people use GarageArt.
If you are a gamer, I see no reason why you would own a Mac. If you're into art, there is no reason for you to own a Mac.
The way I see it, a PC can pretty much do everything you Mac can. The OSX GUI is quite friendly with the dock and everything. The question is, why don't you boot in W7 in the first place so you can do art AND play LoL without switching? Seems like you're using a Mac just to say that you have one to inconvenience yourself.
You seem daft Zac.
@Your edit - You don't need to be computer literate. You just need to have money. That's why you PAY people to upgrade for you. Upgrading HDD and RAM is easy. Upgrading a CPU or GPU on a laptop is not easy/not possible.
Also, external harddrive.
