|
|
Okay, so just got COD4 2 days ago. First problem was installing punkbuster, second was gettting punkbuster to stop kicking me, third was to reinstall because the game kept crashing. And now, the game crashes out of nowhere. Like it starts up I go into match suddenly "COD4 has stopped working". I think it's certain maps, because everytime I try to go into 'bog' it crashes on load. Anybody know what's going on here? Should I just reinstall the game?
Thanks in advance.

Installing Punkbusters newest from there site does not require steasm to validate anything. You need the latest PB either way.

I have the latest version of Punkbuster, I fixed the Punkbuster problems. I JUST reinstalled the game the other day and I get random crashes. Could it be my AV? I think something's wrong with my AV. Because EVERY program I run it goes "<program> is an unrecognized program and has been sandboxed as partially limited" I don't know why it's doing this. I mean it even does this to FIREFOX and Windows Media Player lolwut. Let me try reinstalling my av and I'll get back to you guys.

I have never heard of an AV causing a program to crash like that, no. What AV do you have? Maybe you should turn it on manual if you think thats the issue. By manual, I mean set it to ask you what you want to let pass each and every program (eset takes 1 time setting the rule) and go from there. I never heard of a AV sandboxing anything.

Make sure PB is run as admin, make sure there is no firewall between PB and the web. Make sure that both PBa and PBb are running. Go to evenbalance and use the update utility.
Also I have seen issues with PB enabled games on some motherboards with nVidia nic's especially if you are using the included nVidia firewall software.
When all else fails enable logging.
In your config add.
Code: |
set logfile 1 // 0 = NO log, 1 = log file enabled
set g_log "games_mp.log"
set sv_log_damage 1
|
Though if it is strickly a pb issue this won't help. Are you able to join non pb games?

So you say, but when a game involves punkbuster 90% of the time its the main cause of issue.

Just use pbupdate.exe or whatever, choose cod4 and run it. That fixed all of my problems.

Guys, it's not PB. Okay, I've done a re-installation about 8-10 times now (literally). It works for maybe a whole day, maybe two. Sometimes only a couple hours. Then, after a night of sleep, I go to my computer looking forward to playing some morning COD4. I open, it opens fine. I look and choose a server. And while the server is loading, "iw3mp.exe" ( i think that's the name) has stopped working. And this is after a day, 8 hours, 4 hours of re-installation and after i've played for a good amount of time. I literally have to do a reinstallation everytime I wanna play. It takes about 30-40 minutes to download the 6-7GB of game files. Here's some of the errors i've gotten before:
When I open the game and go to start menu, suddenly "cannot load "<picture/whatever it can't load here> Error Code 000007 (something like that)
When joining a server :
"Cannot load <map here> Error code 00007" (this is the most frequent problem i have, this is the problem that i get EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME whenever I join a certain map, it'll crash, and after that crash all the other maps don't work anymore.
Specs:
CPU: Intel Celeron @ 2.40Ghz
GPU: GT 220 1GB DDR3 (i fucking love this little card, it runs cod 4 (AAmax) and all the games i have at max settings at 40-60fps with a res of 1600x900.

Have you run with the console logging? If set to debug it will give detail on what was loading at the time of crash.
You also mention it is happening after you sleep. Is your computer getting turned off or going into sleep mode? If sleep mode or suspend turn the feature off, shut the computer totally down.
Also try adding iw3mp.exe to DEP in Windows. Maybe it's a dependency issue.

DEP = Data Execution Prevention
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Execution_Prevention
It's a feature of Windows that is supposed to keep software from running in memory where it shouldn't. Some older software needs to use this memory space sometimes.
Usually Windows will suggest you try running the program with the application added to the DEP exception list.
On Windows XP, Control Panel, System, Performance, Settings, then click the Data Execution Prevention tab in the Settings Options dialog, from here, turn it on and click add, then point it to iw3mp.exe retry to run the game. I have to do that for DCS Black Shark on my system else it won't run, also had to do it for Fallout 3.

Hao do i do it for Win7 D:
.::EDIT::.
DEP isn't even on, only for Essential Windows programs. So DEP isn't the problem?

Right. You need to add iw3mp.exe to the DEP exception list. DEP on means it's running for essential programs only. Win7 Control Panel | System | System Protection | Click Advanced tab, select Performance Settings | Click Data Execution Prevention tab. Here you can add iw3mp.exe to the exception list.
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1013883
Mentions DEP on iw3mp as resolving a MP running issue.
http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1233717.htm
This thread mentions someone enabling sound mixer in their sound settings to resolve it not being able to run.
Add that log entry, this way you could post a log of what was running in COD at time of crash.
I've run COD servers since the first COD installment up through 4.
