I have a Toshiba Laptop 2007 and a Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard plugged in via USB they are both wireless laser and recently my Toshiba Laptop said that this was now an unknown device and then my internet connection dropped and no wireless networks were available. I tried unplugging the USB then plugging it in again it keeps saying unknown and then I pulled out the USB then every 5 seconds a balloon pops up saying unknown USB device even though I have it unplugged, I've restarted my computer, I've tried changing ports, and the only way I can connect to the internet is via a Linksys Wireless Network adapter, that's the only way I can connect to the internet.
This has happened before but I don't remember how I fixed it. I regained control of my mouse and keyboard last time and I was able to connect to my internet wirelessly after I fixed it last time.
I don't think it's a virus I think it's just a hardware malfunction, and any help is appreciated and I am currently running Windows Vista. Thanks in advance.

Have the same problem where is says unknown usb device, but my internet and usb mouse works fine. Found out it was a Bluetooth component, force install it and the "unknown usb device" disappeared. The problem is about a few months of use this "unkonw usb device" came back and I've installed the same driver from before, but this time Windows will not let it install saying "this driver is not compatible with this hardware device".
It's been 4 years since that problem started and it's still not fixed, but I'm not bothering with it.
Try installing the Bluetooth device driver and hopefully you will have better luck.
