|
|
I am looking to get a new graphics card. I have narrowed this down to two choices, the HIS 6870 and the Galaxy GTX 470
I have the required power supply, and my motherboard supports both.
The GTX 470 costs $290AU
The Galaxy 6870 costs $296AU
Which one is better for raw performance?
I found this chart, so I was thinking of getting the GTX 470.
Please tell me all the pros and cons in terms of power use, temperature, SLI/CrossFire etc.

6870 is overpriced IMO. But since you live in AUS, the extra benefits from 470 wouldn't help you. So go with 6879.

As a owner of a ATi Radeon HD5850, Nvidia CUDA isn't a gimmick.
Certain professional softwares (CS5) have a great impact when CUDA is involved.

going to be eventually phased out by OpenCL or DirectCompute, AMD is already pushing strongly on OpenCL

ATI has ATI stream which went... seemingly nowhere, but it exists nevertheless.
but OpenCL is exactly what it sounds like, it's an open standard. it's vendor neutral, anyone can implement it, and both parties have.

opencl isn't stream | Please be troll. I use open cl for dolphin emulator on my 4850 and its installed with stream SDK.
In fact heres proof
http://developer.amd.com/gpu/atistreamsdk/pages/default.aspx
Note how it says streamsdk with open cl.
