|
|
I've recently needed to stay up way past midnight, usually until around 4-5am to study and finish my work.
I've been struggling with this. At about 2:30am - 3:00am, my focus is gone and I begin bobbing my head with fatigue. I don't know what this is called, but it's kinda like... I'm sitting there and all of a sudden, my mind would stray or go blank and I would fall asleep for a second, and wake up right after. So basically, just bobbing my head up and down.
I first thought Green Tea (Genmai Cha) would help me stay up, but it didn't. Drinking 5 cups of tea in an hour didn't work either. The caffeine, if there was any, didn't seem to kick in.
So I thought that it would be best for me to begin drinking coffee. I'm 16, but I don't know if my age matters with this. My parents have always told me as a kid to never drink coffee. Now, they just saw they rather I didn't drink it. Why is this though? What is bad about it? The effects coming from caffeine maybe? I honestly don't know, I've never looked into this, but I really want to before I think about subduing to coffee. I don't know any other way I can keep myself awake. What's worse, the class I have after staying up until 5 in the morning is dreadful. I'm unable to concentrate in class and the only method I've found that worked was to eat something while working/listening to the lecture.
If you guys have any information on coffee and why so many parents tell their kids/teens to not drink it, please let me know.
TL;DR - Why is coffee so bad to drink? Does age matter?

Well apparently it can slow growth so that may be why they tell children not to drink it (Also to stop them bouncing off the freaking walls).
Like all drugs you get a downer from coffee. Once it's effects have worn off you will feel tired and much worse than you did in the first place. It's also bad to rely on something to help you stay awake (Your body needs sleep. I'd go into reasons why but I could spend pages on it, damn you psychology)

What's happening when the growth of you body slows down? I mean, what exactly is slowing down?
Also, what is a downer?
And how long does it take for coffee to kick in, and how long does the boost last before you crash?

Like most things, you can become reliant on it (read: caffeine), and yes, that means there is a withdrawal. This is pretty unlikely to happen though unless you are consuming comical amounts of caffeine every day for an extended period of time and then decide to suddenly stop.
It's effectively a stimulant, and can come with a nice crash.
No, it doesn't stunt growth.
Basically just fucking drink it if you want a quick fix of energy.

I'm really not sure about the science behind the slowing of growth, it's just something that has been said for a while.
As for the downer (If I remember anything from my PSE lessons) You get your buzz and after that has worn off you feel as bad as you did good (Think of like a wave, ~, The top is when you feel good and the bottom is once it has worn off, lame analogy but it works.)
It can take a little while for it to kick in, it needs to get into your body, it should last for a few hours.
Personally I don't think I get effected by caffeine that much. I can drink a few energy drinks and feel almost no different, same with a few cups of black coffee. This may be down to the delayed effects or I may just have a resistance or something.

Listen, some people drink coffee to do better in school, feel more energetic and stuff. But if you keep drinking it too much you just get worse/reliant. Besides I never drink coffee and I'm always awake and ready compared to some people who got greater sleep. How your body works & how your lifestyle is makes the most changes.
tl;dr:
People who are usually energetic/mentally awake do not get much benefit from coffee.

Tea doesn't really have the amount of caffeine that coffee has. Anyway, I say you should stay away from coffee. It's addictive, and then you'll get to the point where you're going to feel like you can't run without coffee. You know, it stimulates the brain in the same way as heroin does.

How about studying earlier? D:

no.
even if you did, worst case scenario is probably no worse than you might get a headache or feel tired.

Get some 5-Hour Energy. I took some off that shit and I was up all night. And there's no crash. Those commercials were right.

Yeah it is. All that happens is that it speeds your conversion of food to energy... Why would you have a crash?

Slowing growth is not bad, it is good.
Slow = live longer.
Coffee does not slow growth, it stunts growth.
Stunt = slow until it stops and doesn't start again = stay short forever.
Or small dick.
