Hey guys, Sep here.
Anyways, I've recently been pondering on my own internet speed, and it seems that, after running a few speedtests, that i am on a 6.25Mbps connection, when I currently have a 20Mbps connection with Optus.
So, what I'm wondering if it is supposed to be normal, or something?
I also remember running a few speedtests back when i was on XP and getting like 15Mbps.
On W7 atm.
Is there anything i can do, cable wise/program wise/computer wise to maybe speed up the connection abit.
I know i can hit about 15Mbps, I like my internet speed D':
I do torrent alot and reach about 600-800kbps, which is fast, but hell, any speed increases I can take, I'll take.
So yeah, thanks in advance guys.

There are many factors that affect your speed. Time of day is one of the largest, test at different times a day, see if you can find a pattern to when it's fastest and when it's slowest. Also equipment on your network can affect your speed.
Something I have noticed since introducing Vista Pro, and Server 2008 onto my network with a Win XP box is that there is a slow down when transferring data across my network from the XP box to either of the other OS's. Yet from XP to XP I get twice the speed when transferring. XP to Vista speed is about 4 - 5 meg/sec, about the same XP to 2008, and about the same from Vista to 2008, but when I do a XP to XP transfer I see upwards of 10 - 20 meg/sec.
Do you have any older gear on your network?
Also read your ISP contract. Most state that the speed you sign up for is a peak speed and you may not see that at all times.

I currently have a NETGEAR DG384v3, from optus, so i can't update the damn firmware cause optus is tight.
On Vista i was getting @ 10Mpbs, and during torrents i would be getting 1-1.5megs.
It's like witch each OS upgrade, speed has been getting slower ><

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pegged
See definitions 3 and 4. I think that is what slovach meant by pegged.
It's entirely possible you are at your max speed. Or as much as your ISP is going to let you have.

why are people overthinking it, pegged as in stuck
10 megabits is around 1 megabyte
this and the fact that your isp literally has no obligation whatsoever to give you the speed you pay for so...

If you're connecting wirelessly, yes.

if you're using it, it can bottleneck you, wireless or not.
you are not going to be dropping 100mbit/s symmetrical off an old wrt54 linksys.
