Bought a new
Western Digital Caviar Green (WD10EARS) 1000GB (1TB) SATA 3 Gb/s 64MB (OEM)

Wondering if I'm doing it right or not.
Having doubts of if:
-SATA isn't compatible with my computer since my Caviar Black is ATA.
(Western Digital Caviar Black (WD5001AALS) 500GB SATAII 7200RPM 32MB Cache (OEM))
-Or if I'm missing a wire to plug in from my motherboard.
(Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3)

This is my first time installing an HDD so...

Top HDD is the Caviar Black and bottom Caviar Green. The Black is my C:\

the disc on the bottom is not connected just plugged into power. you need another SATA cable to connect it to your motherboard

SATA drives are backwards compatible. So there isn't going to be a problem there. However, you I can see that you only plugged the power cable into the Cav Green. You need to also use a SATA cable. It's the other cable coming out of your original HDD. The SATA cable is the cable that the information actually runs through. Once you plug the SATA cable it, the drive will appear in my computer as a place to put stuff.

It appears on my device manager saying it's ready but it isn't showing up in My Computer.

Buy it. Plug one end into the hard drive. Plug the other end into your motherboard. It will work.

Assuming that you did eventually get yourself a sata cable and plugged in in both the harddisk AND the disk controller (yes, people sometimes even forget that part)

rightclick on "my computer" and choose manage
Go to storage->disk management and you'll see a list of disks and logical drives

one of them is probably not initialized , so rightclick it (the left column that is, the one with "disk) and choose initialize
And when that is done format (and assign a drive letter)

Edit: nvm

Yahs, SATA doesn't have master/slave settings. There's still prolly the 32GB limit thing, but who needs it anyway

Just saying, you don't need one anyway due to nothing piggybacking. Separate channels and all. Still old habits die hard.
