If your referring to Windows Live Messenger and not Windows Live Mail, I'd recommend you switch to Compact View by clicking the button in the top right corner and also get rid of the ads in the chat window by going to the Options, going to the Messages tab and uncheck the bottemest box "Show expanded footer in conversation window". I hate the fact it doesn't use nicknames anymore, but instead uses your first and last name... That sucks balls.

Its Windows Live Messenger build 8.5, the one before the 2011, I got 2011 and thought it was shit to, spent 30mins and found that one, finally.
