Was wondering anyone here certified in anything? I'm still choosing which path to take to work on being either CCent certification or A+ certification. Post if you're certified in anything or working to be certified in anything.

Cool, hope you pass. I really would love to get into networking but its so dry to me. I love hardware and working with it so much more fun to me. BUt networking is where the big bucks are.

Most companies will hire those who have certifications, but having a paper that says you "know" something does not necessarily mean you actually know how to apply it in the real world.
A person I knew who used to work in the IT field has no certifications, but his co-worker has a bunch of them. One day the manager deploy his co-worker to a customer for some service with their broken PCs. He spend almost 4 hours trying to fix it and failed. So he came back and the person I knew went instead.
He went and boom, boom, boom, done.
The whole thing took him just 10 minutes.
Note: To get into Geek Squad, you will need a A+ certification.
You can tell most that works there has one.
But 99.9% of them don't know shit about computers.
Still want to be certified then go and achieve it, while your doing so, you will also need to get your hands dirty.

kls85 is correct. Where I work, we have had several people hired that had more degrees/certs than myself. Then knew less than half of what I know.
Good example, the IT manager hired this one guy that has been working for himself doing computer repair out of his vehicle. Mostly just sweep n clear type stuff. I giggled at him one day while I watched him struggle for a half an hour trying to change a users time on XP, yes you guessed it, user accounts are locked and can't change system settings like this. After I had had a good laugh, I let him know how to fix it.
Certs don't mean you know what you are doing or that you are capable. Only that you have demonstrated minimum knowledge required in that area.
A cert will not tell you why a software that your company uses will not run on a pc, and when you call their tech support and they have no clue either.
Ran into this issue with some accounting software we use at work. We started getting in Acer computers, turns out the LanScope agent they ship out with them by default, was causing the accounting software to not install at all.
Ask questions, if you don't know the answer, use Google. I don't think any IT manager that was worth a damn wouldn't let you use Google to resolve an issue.

I haven't had certification yet but just want to share my personal point of view. Either which one to choose will depend upon the skill you have for a particular certification. It does seem odd for people having certification who cannot carry themselves well. It's quite different seeing a crocodile from a picture rather than seeing it in person, and you'll say "Oh, that's how it really looked like."
So, A+ or CCENT, they're all for entry levels, if you are to specialize and build your career in networking then why not take CCENT already, same goes for A+ certification.
