I was going to get some AV for my PC, since I just un-installed Norton. I was thinking maybe Avast! or AVG or Avira.

So, which one should it be? I am fed with up Norton...don't ask why. So, I need some advice.

Kaspersky Internet Security if you're going to buy or pirate otherwise I suggest Avast, Avira, Comodo (For its Defense + feature).

In my opinion, either which one you decide to choose, it should go together with at least the feature you really need the most. And don't just rely on what AV you're using, also be aware of what your PC will gain access from/to. Prevention is better than cure as the line says, you can't blame doctors if they can't cure a malignant disease. D'you get my point?

IMHO Comodo antivirus is the best. It's free, easy to set up, and it gets the job done like a boss.

Regardless of you saying not to ask, what is your issue with Norton? Any issue you are having could be just a misconfiguration or a potential problem you are choosing to ignore.

Norton is a fairly decent commercial anti-virus, sure there are free alternatives, but those tend to not get as in-depth as a commercial one does. Why not explain why you are fed up with Norton and just see if it's something simple to fix rather then going out of your way to use some cheap alternative that is subpar at best.

If you are forcing a free alternative, AVG is probably your best bet, currently.

Norton has poor detection rates, completely fails when it comes to rootkit detection and isn't exactly the lightest AV.

I'd prefer Comodo, AntiVir, Avast over Norton any day.

Can't say I've had the same experience with Norton to be honest, even putting it to work and testing it out before with some various things. Had it detect rootkits no problem as well. I will agree though it isn't a light solution.
