It really depends where you want to work. If it's just like a clothing store of something it's not like you have to give them your life story, but if it's like a professional job then you need a good resume. Tell them why you would stand out, what your qualities are, why they should pick you, etc.

Personally I think it would be better if you looked for something other than retail, maybe work in a restaurant. But thats just me. Read over your contract, don't write too much in you CV, just what is relevant to the job (They have to read a lot so long boring ones will not catch their eye. Even change the font).
Interviews are nothing, when you get that far you know they like you so don't be too worried but then again dont be too arrogant.

I was in the same situation as you. However, my parents knew the owners of a pizza place so i was a shoe in to get the job. Honestly knowing people will most likely get you jobs. Even my sister who has a medical degree got a job thanks to my mom.

Remember that 75% of the time, it's people that know you will get you your next job interview.
Another reason to socialize and play nice with colleagues (and possibly, friends of colleagues). Get to know them, and let them get to know you (including your weak points), because you never know where life might take you (or them). 10 years later they might get you a nice job somewhere else.

Also don't be afraid to walk into stores and ask if they have any places and give them your CV. A lot of the time they will put your CV on record so if they do have a spot you will be considered.
