Write a nice application, and act relaxed and comfortable at the interview. Self confidence, Fuck Yeah.

It really depends where you want to work. If it's just like a clothing store of something it's not like you have to give them your life story, but if it's like a professional job then you need a good resume. Tell them why you would stand out, what your qualities are, why they should pick you, etc.

Personally I think it would be better if you looked for something other than retail, maybe work in a restaurant. But thats just me. Read over your contract, don't write too much in you CV, just what is relevant to the job (They have to read a lot so long boring ones will not catch their eye. Even change the font).
Interviews are nothing, when you get that far you know they like you so don't be too worried but then again dont be too arrogant.

True, retail they'll let you off whenever they feel like it. I had a friend who worked at pacsun over the summer and they let him off once school started because they only wanted him to sell more stuff for back to school.

I'm still in high school... calm down guys. It's a temporary job to save some money for college.

Tips:
- Honest money always feels good, but be sure to get the kind that you will be proud to mention when you go for an interview for your next job later on.
- Try to set goals so you can be proud about your achievements in your CV later on.
- Learn as much as you can from the pros - it will be a great asset later on.
- Get a job reasonably close to your place of residence.
- Respect the old employees a lot. They have great stories including company secrets (from which you can learn a lot, so you won't repeat past mistakes), and they will be the ones to help you out when you get into trouble.
Caveats:
- Travel forth/back every day.
- Less free time.
- More stress.
- Be pissed/worried about taxes.
- As a temp, you will not have much benefits/rights (health care, pension, bonuses, benefits, etc).
Warnings: Plenty.
- Watch your back, do not take shit from seniors/permanent employees (they have no right to treat you any different).
- Depending on the job, there might be a lot of conditions. Make sure to remember those well. In extreme cases you might not even get paid.

I was in the same situation as you. However, my parents knew the owners of a pizza place so i was a shoe in to get the job. Honestly knowing people will most likely get you jobs. Even my sister who has a medical degree got a job thanks to my mom.

That's awesome that you have connections. It's a shame my parents aren't that connected D:

You and your parents might not be well connected.
But that will change over time.
Remember that 75% of the time, it's people that know you will get you your next job interview.
Another reason to socialize and play nice with colleagues (and possibly, friends of colleagues). Get to know them, and let them get to know you (including your weak points), because you never know where life might take you (or them). 10 years later they might get you a nice job somewhere else.

Also don't be afraid to walk into stores and ask if they have any places and give them your CV. A lot of the time they will put your CV on record so if they do have a spot you will be considered.

I think that this question and the answer are highly irrelevant for tips, caveats and warnings...
This question comes up only when one's talking about one specific job.
