So, I was thinking today, how many morals I have lost lately. How my actions may be considered gross. How I may be perceived by others.
People are always saying "kids these days." and I think I am only helping to fuel this biased opinion.
So, I decided to reflect on me and my group of friends. We do some pretty immoral stuff. It mostly includes animals and their incapacitation. We throw rocks at cats, kick them and stuff, but cats are considered a major pest in PNG, and are just the cause of the spread of several mammal related diseases. We plug legs off geckos and leave them to drown in a puddle. But there are heaps of geckos. We catch fish, kill them, then just throw them back. I guess being so desensitised and living in a third world country really affects what you do.

Yeah, that seems kind of violent/cruel. But you're right, when you're brought up in an environment that is constantly dangerous/violent you become desensitized.
Doing all that sounds pretty disgusting to me (raised in the US).

I suppose being around violence can desensitize you but you obviously know what you are doing is wrong and yet you continue to do it. So it's only your opinion that really counts.

the term "kids these days." is completely bogus, it should just be "Kids"
20 years ago the "kids of those days" did the same horrible crap you are doing now (Probably even worse )
e.g : Blowing up life frogs and then popping them like a balloon was one of the most common children games

Ah, don't feel bad about it.
Truth is, even adults do fucked up shit anyway.
I wouldn't blame you for any of this, or isolate you, although if you randomly started to beat up on an animal I'd be weirded out.

I think you are just being a kid. It's no worse than what I used to do to animals as a kid.
You can also look at it like this. The cats are disease carriers, so by running them off you are helping your community stay disease free. Pulling the legs off geckos, well I think they will grow back, unless the animal dies first. Killing fish and throwing them back, there are tons of water creatures that will make a short meal from a dead fish, so you are providing for them.
As you age, your outlook will change. It has nothing to do with morals, or morality. I think you are just growing and finding out who you are. It's also animal instinct to prey on weaker species. Look at nature for proof.

I was raised till 14 in Australia, it only really started when I moved to PNG.

That sounds a little bit like our popular nighttime game: running around with sticks/rocks and crushing cane toads. Whoever makes it wheeze the loudest (it lets out some gas when it dies, if you crush it) wins.

And it's always fun to be holding a fish and then cut it's head off, just to see it's body continue flailing.

It probably will...

Pretty much this.
You're disgusting and sadistic.
You think pulling legs off geckos is ok because there are plenty of them?

It's not ok to be doing this, but then again it's not completely bad. When you're in a third world country, distant from a few modern leisures, you tend to turn to what you've got. My mom was born and raised in Xania, Krete in greece and she lived on a farm in a little village. Pretty much the only things her and her friends could do was put twigs into the ends of tsetse flies and watch them hover around with sticks in their backs.
I think that as long as it has a purpose, it's fine. In fact, all animals torture their prey. he can use the excuses of feeding fish with other fish, curing disease from taking care of the cats, or controlling the population of geckos.
