So today, I was on a boat with some friends. We were cruising back from an island in the Pacific Ocean. There were some other people who were with us on another boat. Theirs was slower, so they left first. When we caught up on the way back, the skipper of the boat I was on shot 3 shots into the water behind the other boat. The gun was a 9mm. All the grown ups were pretty drunk lol...
Anyway, so this raised a question: Do you think gun ownership is an ethical choice? In PNG, you may need one as crime is high, but in a developed country with a good justice system, do you really need one? The skipper of the boat's gun was unlicensed, therefore legally immoral, but should he be trusted with a gun? What if he had of killed someone? Why do we need guns anyway?

Well the only reason I see for morally owning a gun is for protection, but if other people also don't have guns you don't really need it. I live in the UK so I don't really have any experience with guns but personally I feel that only people such as police who have had full training should have them (Mostly as a deterrent).
And i'm guessing that you mean the public and not the military for example.

Well even if there was a world wide ban there would still be a lot around. Unless you mean it in a hypothetical situation where it was possible to get rid of them all then yeah, there is no real point of them. And in any case I don't think the public should own guns.

I am getting a gun soon, or well first a license. They are needed, I mean theres so much shit around the world, and I guess it depends on where you live. I'd feel better knowing that I can prevent anyone from trying anything with the ones I love.
