| I remember several places giving free .infos a few years ago, but I can't find any now. Anyone know of any?

Most of those were "free .info with a purchase of a .org, .com, or .net" which are still around (go to the webhostingtalk forum, you'll find plenty of "deals" like this)

1a. Use any offshore bank
1b. Register company holdings in offshore country (more secure)
2. Use PayPal with false information, verify with offshore bank that also optionally has false information or leads to the company, which has false information.
3. ???
4. Yes, you do profit.
2 can be skipped in most cases.

You pay for a domain each year. You may also pay for a domain in bulk (eg. 10 years at once.)
