|
|
Happened like this. I was knee deep playing KHII, and then the monitor went to sleep and the sound was gone and nothingness. No bsod or anything. The red light on my 4850 was also light. Is this power failure? Its happened 3 times, but 2 seemed related to Lunia, which I have not run in 5 weeks. Needless to say it hasn't happened in 5 weeks. I had to press the reset to fix it too.
I noticed PCI Express was also set for max power savings during Idle. Now I've noticed that when I play a game using nothing but a controller, my msn says idle. This saying my pc thinks its idle, but my gfx card is running a heavy load, could this also cause the crash? Obviously have changed the pcie savings to off. Is there a stress test for a psu?

if you're losing signal to the monitor, this is almost always the psu at fault.
it's probably getting ready to die and kill some hardware.

Its brand new too. But its not just the gfx card. the whole thing loses it but is still running. It suspends its self but everything is still running. The gfx card included.

yes, exactly. everything stays on but the monitor loses signal + sound loops / hangs.
this is a pretty classic psu problem.

Could also be a overheating problem.
I've had this happening to me as well, immediately rebooting the system didn't work, red lights kept on. (every time while playing settlers 7, a game that's heavy on the gpu)
Waiting for a few minutes and cleaning out all the dust from the system fixed the problem

Yea rebooting worked easily. No over heating I don't think. Always a possibility though. Trying prime95 as its the onyl way to stress the psu I can find, and I cannot seem to make it give out under heavy power usage.

Furmark stress GPU and allow their maximum draw, use a digital meter to check power draw or something

linpack it and furmark it at the same time.
your computer will cry, or burst into flames.

Used furmark over 10 minutes yesterday. Nothing but a 70c temp for the gpu.

A PSU is a PSU. I have a cheap £15 one, 600W or something. Never had any problems.

They are fine, but not something i would use on a 24/7. i picked up few Antec earthwatt 550w for $30 at my local Office Depot as clearance and resell them $10 below newegg price
Although passive PFC really throws me off for the Ultra, which won't use the full efficiency, but who gives a damn, is only $50 right?

As for your nasty 15 dollar psu, fuck that. I'd rather not buy something that sound like its cheap and flimsy. I'll give them mine and see if the problem continues.

Prove me wrong, but i don't think passive PFC aren't that efficent for running 24/7.
But who gives a shit, just bugger their customer support when your blows up.
