Hey so I recently cleaned out a virus that I got from installing DivX Player (http://www.cucirca.com/2007/05/27/watch-heroes-online).

The virus definitely isn't running on my comp anymore; it was stealthing (melding with explorer.exe?) before and constantly writing certain registry values, but that's stopped. Also msconfigs-->startup has nothing abnormal checked and all the visible/invisible processes I've got running have been accounted for.

So yeah there's just one aftereffect that won't go away: 3 executables aren't working. They are:
-taskmgr.exe
-ollydbg.exe
-loader/launcher for a certain game I want to play ):

I've tried a large variety of other programs, and they all work:
-CE works
-minesweeper works
-MS office programs works
-other online games work
-msconfig, cmdprompt both work
-VC++ (and its debugger) and GMER (which is basically task manager with added functionality) both work
-hack injectors work
-game client that corresponds to the launcher which doesn't work is working, but I can't play as I need the launcher to patch up

Here's what happens when I try to run one of the three aforementioned programs:
WINDOWS\system32\scvhost.exe runs
WINDOWS\system32\scvhost.exe immediately closes
*No sign whatsoever of the executable that I ran
**This actually only happens like 20% of the time, the rest of the time nothing happens... maybe this is because it runs/closes too fast to register most of the time?

Normally what would happen:
WINDOWS\system32\winmine.exe runs
[close minesweeper window]
WINDOWS\system32\winmine.exe closes

As you can see the 3 executables never run at all, they just start up scvhost.exe, which then closes. Note that I've got a normal number of scvhost.exe's running already.
Once again, this problem applies to virtually no programs other than the 3 I mentioned above, which seems - impossible - to me X.X

This problem's been highly vexing; been trying to fix it for a while and getting nowhere so I thought I'd turn to CEF in hopes of an solution.

All help/suggestions are highly appreciated!

EDIT: they work if I use CE's Create Process button to start em up o.O I don't want to have to do that every time though..

you definitely did not get a virus from divx unless you're retarded and downloaded it from a place other than their site.

Err nope. We're talking a plain old olly exe and the regular task manager exe in system32, with normal shell options (open, run as, send to, etc).

Run as administrator, run in compatibility mode, etc.

Tried running as admin, and in every compatibility mode available; no luck ):

Also tried redownloading olly/reinstalling the game, and starting the processes from the "Run" dialog and from command line.

I don't think this thread is getting anywhere, ima do some hardcore googling this weekend.

Btw I don't suppose anyone has any idea why starting the applications with CE's "Create Process" button works when all else fails??

Just reformat it would be the easiest solution.
