I'm looking to build a computer for gaming and multitasking. I'm planning on it being Win7 Ultimate. I based some components off the recommended specifications for BF:BC2 so it's somewhat up to date hardware to play a lot of games. If there are any problems you can post what they are in this thread or PM me asking for my MSN if you wish to talk to me directly.
Ok, so far I have the following from Newegg picked out, clearly not done yet:
-ASUS P7P55 LX or...... this?
-i5-661 Clarkdale 3.33GHz 4MB L3 Cache
-CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V
-Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5
-WD Bare Drive 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5"
-I can reuse DVD-ROM and DVD-RW drives
-I have 2 x 1GB PC3-8500 DDR3-1066MHz non-ECC Unbuffered CL7 240-Pin sticks of RAM from before, and I can probably get 2 more free, if not I can buy some.
-I need to pick out a heat sink and fan, recommendations?
-I still have yet to pick out a case that will fit well with the motherboard, I have not looked around yet for the case; preferably something cheap.
I'm trying to keep the price around the $600 area. So if you know any other brands that have lower prices and still last a great deal of time, please recommend them to me, thank you.

spend $5 more on a Samsung f3
buy a GTX 470 or 5850, unless you can get your GTX for $150 (Microcenter, FRY's)
Do note that i5 hates shitload of ram, most need to be adjust for it to work.
stock hsf is fine, hyper 212 for true value, noctua for ricer/god tier level overclocking
just pick some shitty case if you want it to be cheap, open-air work the best for jews.

If you want to spend 40 dollars more on the processor, a Xeon X3440 offers a bit more performance since it has only slightly lower clock speed, but has hyper threading and virtualisation.

Same socket, same chip. They're just i7's that come in more varieties.

"The Xeon is a brand of multiprocessing- or multi-socket-capable x86 microprocessors from Intel Corporation targeted at the non-consumer server, workstation and embedded system markets."
In my ear that doesn't sound like gaming.
ECC, fully buffered mem and to run severals cpus parallelly. Sounds like alot of server stuff to me.

There are different levels of Xeons and not all of them are "servers and not gaming". My system is running on a Xeon and playing games does not slow down or so forth, it works great.
And if you want Intel high-end gaming platform, it will required a pair of Xeons since cosumer CPU you think it's target towards "gaming" does not have dual QPI.

What about a case as well? I'm not too sure about picking one out the right size and such...

Dude, why the hell would you get a 661? Unless you're not planning on gaming, it's exactly the same as the 660. It just has a faster integrated graphics which uses more power, which you wouldn't be using anyway.

Get intel core 2 quad. Dual-core is not so good.

It is for gaming for the most part.

Uh huh. So the features that the i5 661 offers over the 660 are useless to you, and thus you should not get it.
