If it happens when you get into a fight, but not other times, it's more than likely the CPU, having to deal with all the stuff with the addition to the AI (not that Crysis has that advanced of AI). If it were your GPU, you'd have shit FPS the whole time. The addition of AI should put no extra stress on your GPU.

yeah because shit blowing up doesnt mean more for your GPU to do. each light from a muzzle flash means an extra render pass, etc.

Crysis is almost always GPU bound.

I seriously doubt that muzzle flashes and the addition of the models and textures for the enemies makes the difference between playable and not.

why do you think they completely overhauled the lighting model in the next revision of the engine?

that was just an example butt, each light that hits an object means it needs another render pass, so you get to eat the geometry costs for everything that light touches. then you get to deal with a million more things like dust and shit kicked up which then contributes to fill rate death. you can pretty easily add valuable milliseconds to your draw time just by busying the scene a little.

the simple things are hardly as simple as they appear.

crysis is a million times more gpu bound than anything

I think the main problem is in here:

1920x1200

com'on I don't even think you monitor supports that resolution...
you are making your PC do calculations that are not even going to be used.

Because it's hard to own a 24inch screen.

its not alwasya bout size you know
that big monitor supports only up top 1080p (( 1920 x 1080 ))
which is top resolution. calculating more than that amount of pixels is a waste.

Just so you know, is a T260HD that i received as a gift for being a total dickface, and i still think this monitor isn't that great, since i got used working with 27" iMacs, Cinea display and IPS panels offered by NEC
1920x1080 monitor are for poorfags.

well I think 1080p is more than enough :/ and almost all the producers nowdays think the same.

also there is a limit, when a screen is too big it become more of a bother than something good.

More like, cropped onto 1920x1080, most movies are 2:8 to 1 or something
16:9 is cheap because is cheaper to produce and manufactures likes to bundle them with their desktops, and most people just watch anime/ stream shit anyway.
Don't you think that extra vertical space makes a difference when you do your modeling and such?

Don't you think that extra vertical space makes a difference when you do your modeling and such?

actually for modeling you dont need a big screen, but most of CG artists preffer to have multiple screens are a huge ass screen to place reference pictures. examples:
1) muti screens :
you use 1 screen to do the modeling and use the other ones to place reference pictures so you dont have to minimize and maximize windows each 20 seconds.

2) 1 huge ass screen:
usually never maximise windows and just work in a little area surrounded by lots of pictures. on top and sides of your working window.

___

I mean.. you know your screen is too big when you need to move your head to see what is going on in your screen or have the screen at more than half a meter from you to be able to see it all.
