So, at my place, I've got two windows XP computers that have been able to transfer files via shared folders for ages. Recently I got myself a nice new laptop with windows 7 on it. I tried to add it to the workgroup, but somehow that won't work - or only partially. Obviously, all 3 computers have been added to the same workgroup with the same name . They're all connecting through the same router.
My two XP computers are able to see all three (XP, XP, 7) computers in the workgroup. Strangely though, I can only access the Shared Folder on windows 7, via windows XP, when only ONE windows XP is powered on.
Not only that is happening, another, way more annoying thing is, that I can't access Shared Folders on my windows XP computer via windows 7, simply because it (windows 7) doesn't even see the other two XP computers in the network.
I've messed with firewall settings, netBIOS, whatever. One solution might be disabling Simple File Sharing on both XP computers, but since they're on windows XP Home, I don't have access to do that (bla bla need admin accounts bla bla boot in safe mode). Still, I doubt that that would make windows 7 see the other computers in the workgroup.
So, do any of you have an idea on how I could possibly get windows 7 to see my other two XP computers?

Windows 7 defaults to password protected sharing, you can do is set a password on your Win7 system or disable it.
Head Network and sharing center and you will be able to find it.

Already disabled that for as far as I know, at the 'profile' settings. At profile 'home', I disabled password protection.

Have you had trouble with networking two computers? It's possible to set up a simple peer-to-peer meshwork with two computers in just a some minutes. Unfortunately, various technical issues may arise that make the duty much more difficult. On this page our readers deal their experiences with connecting two computers.
