I was thinking of buying an SSD just to boot Win7 and possibly program files (not sure if it would be a big influence to the speed or performance of my computer). So I was looking on Newegg but I realized I don't know anything about SSDs. I need some advice. _________________

Well I saw a chart comparing a 7200 RPM HDD and an SSD before and remembered these:
-SSD has faster start up time
-HDD has faster shutdown time because the motors are already spinning
and some random info to go along with it saying:
-Defragmentation doesn't affect SSDs
-Not as noisy as the HDD
and as for the price, SSDs are like shitloads more expensive than 7200rpm HDDs. [storage capacity wise]
Not sure about the performance improvement but I've also heard that it increases the search speed of files.
Sorry for the vague information. _________________

SSD performance degrades over time. Look for ones that supports the TRIM command.
Single Level Cell (SLC) is better than Multi-Level Cell (MLC) but it's hell of a lot more expensive, so most of the SSD target towards consumers are MLC. _________________

Sorry for the vague information. | No, no, I know all of that. And by the way, an SSD still shuts down faster than an HDD, it doesn't have any moving parts. I know plenty about SSDs in that sense, I just need to know stuff regarding purchasing them. I guess I should have made my first post more specific, I'm going to buy an SSD and I want you guys to help me pick out which one to get.

SSD are nice as they are very cheap right now (OCZ had a sale yesterday 40gb w/ TRIM for $120 after $20 rebate.
REMEMBER, DON'T FUCKING DEFRAG A SSD
And enjoy your 7.0 Window Index Score for the lolz. |

Then I'll probably keep another 15-20GB for other miscellaneous files I want to run quickly. So I'm only looking for about a 30GB of space. _________________

Since when buying SSD care about the cost?
Is all about performance
like idiots who buy a raid 6 cardo for $600 USD and take bunches drives from work place and have it's own server |

| ssd's aren't nonsensical to buy yet unless you have way too much $$ to throw around, and then you can spend it better elsewhere |
