Each time I close my Firefox windows via the red 'X' box at the upper-right corner, the window closes, but the process doesn't.

The process continues to run in the background, meaning that next time I open Firefox, it gives me the "There's already a process running, close that and try again." message.

Of course, I can just use the Task Manager to kill the process, but that's awfully annoying.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Grawr, got 3.6; didn't fix it.

I'm reluctant to reinstall right off the bat; going to look for other solutions.

Thanks for the suggestions.

@elpacco; thanks for the suggestion, but that doesn't really help my injured patient here. :<

"Doctor, doctor, my baby is sick!"
"Oh, just go make another one."

@Andrew; Windows 7

@Yuri, what exactly should I be looking for?

Try starting up firefox in safe mode, exit it, and see if it makes a difference.

Well seeing as you didn't go through 9 months of labor and a bunch more effort into getting Firefox and you aren't (or shouldn't be, at least) emotionally attached to it, your metaphor doesn't exactly fit. I mean if you want to go through all the effort of fixing a memory-hogging, process whore instead of getting an arguably better browser that you should already have, be my guest.

I use 4 different kind of browser, all shit.
Opera has no add-on, but speedial is useful i guess
Chrome sent shit to google, i don't want them to call the FBI
FF has nice add-on, better picture rendering (unoticable shit)
IE 8 and below is just pure shit, IE 8 is still shit.
going back to netscape
warning: 6MB image because i like .png

Opera has no addons because anything you'd ever need to do with it is already built in.

For example, with vanilla firefox can you trick http://danasoft.com/ into thinking that you're actually on IE and tell those people that have those sigs that think they're so clever that their sig is wrong?

Sure there MIGHT be an addon for that, but it won't be nearly as convenient as right click>edit site preferences>advanced.
