Cheat Engine

HI all,

I am using Cheat Engine a while now and it always worked fine on any game.
I found here the Direct X-Mess Tutorial which was pretty cool and worked fine. Then i wanted to try it on a Steam game like CS:S but somehow the Aimhelper or Z Buffer and all that other cool stuff didn't appear. I tried the same at a non-Steam CS:S version (ye i know illegal) but this time it worked there.

Actually the thing I would like to know: Is it possible to hack any Steam game like CS:S or hl1 or hl2 etc.
