now, my PSU is 400 watts and i want to buy a 1000 watts PSU (or even higher)

if i use a 1000 watts PSU will my pc be consuming 1000 watts even if i only use 2 fans, 1 HDD, 1 DVD drive and no OC parts?

or does it depend on the components my pc is using, such as the number of fans, HDD, optical drives, overclocked parts

It'll only use the amount your system requires, and it'd be a waste of money to buy anything that big if you're not gonna use it.

just get what you need when the system is under full load (all harddisks writing, 3d graphics being rendered where the bottleneck is the gpu, etc...)

just to give you an idea.. in general.. a gaming pc with top of the line hardware + power hungry dual video cards will never take more than 650w PSU. Hope this answers your question regarding your parts and power need.

don't rate the psu quality by wattage.

buy something because it's actually good, not because it says it can power a small town
