|
|
Well I have this drive here.. it absolutely refuses to read/write DVDs anymore, but a CD will work fine. It's not a driver issue, it just stopped one day after failing to burn a video properly. So onto my question(s)
I'm told you can replace the laser in the drive, is this true?
If yes, where could I get a replacement one? Googling has given results about xbox drives.
Info if it's needed; (tell me if more is required?)

Why don't you just buy another Drive.
They're cheap, and it doesn't require any custom work.
All you gotta do is Plug in the SATA cable and Power..

For the learning experience? I prefer to fix shit rather than just replace the whole thing. And it's an IDE drive.

| Id buy a new drive, and then experiment with the old ones. A dvd drive cannot have a "lack of drivers" as optical drives are plug and play.

So you're telling me this Uninstall button here won't cause the device to stop working if I use it and don't reboot? Please - confirm shit before you post.

 | You can google it. Optical drives do not need drivers as they already have them. Yours would have to be extremely old to need drivers.

If they don't need drivers, why do they already have them? You're making yourself look retarded again and I think you should just stop posting.

Seeing as the drivers are from Microsoft, I'd say they have a sort of universal driver built into Windows for all dvd/cd drives. Still drivers, nevertheless.
@OP: This looks interesting.

@OP: This looks interesting. | Windows has a driver to recognize an optical drive period. The drive its self does not need a specific driver. You plug it in and thats it. I have done it with several IDE dvd drives. I did it about 5 months back with a brand new dvd -+ rw with light scribe. I forget the burn speed on it though.

Never said I wanted to do it the easy way. I'd much rather do it the hard way and learn from it, then just go do what everyone else does and buy a new drive.
