look at the file extension, it's ipsw, but you can still extract the files from it since an ipsw is just an archive. IF that's not the case (even though it is), go download one that's not archived...
actually i've heard of some people downloading ipsw's and them saving as zip files (since that's what they pretty much are), if that happens then just rename the extension to ipsw. if .plist and .dmg files come out when you extract then this is what's happening. |
man, this is exactly what I said already but he just doesn't read |
I think im starting to understand what you guys are saying, when i download it form the website, it's alreayd in the ipsw format? so i dont have to extract it? i was only extracting it because it comes as 3 books (RAR file) on my XP computer it shows up as a cube with the apple sign all over it, I`ll try again, thanks guys.
EDIT: THAT FILE COMES IN A ZIP FILE. SO YOU HAVE TO EXTRACT IT?! from that website felix or whatever, he postd up there. | When the file icon is the lego-like piece with the Apple logo, it is an ispw file. |
It seems that on his computer, the program associated with the .ispw file is WinRAR for whatever reason. Therefore they don't have the Apple logo, but instead the WinRAR logo. | Same with mine when downloading it. It's because you have to use WinRAR to edit the ispw file in order to jailbreak. |
... so how do i get to the ispw file?

no that does not work... | Alright, redownload the entire thing, put it in it's own folder and do not extract or do anything to it. Go to folder options, go to view, and uncheck hide common file extensions (or something like that), then tell us the file extension.
Take a screenshot while you're at it.

Ok I completely understand now. The .zip archive IS the .ispw file, all you have to do is rename the extension. Now if you would have done what I first told you to do, you could skip these next four steps, but you didn't so:
1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Click “Organize”, scroll down and click “Folder and search options”.
3. Click the “View” tab. Scroll down until you see “Hide extensions for known file types”, un-check this line here by clicking on the check box.
4. Click “OK” and now your file extensions will now longer be hidden.
5. The file should now be named iphone1,2blahblah.zip
6. Right-click -> rename
7. Delete the .zip and replace it with .ispw and you're done.
