Ok sorry if this question has been asked before, i did researched abit on this topic and still got some questions which i hope some of u can answer here
ok now this is the situation, my C drive only got like 9 GB left, meaning i am running out of space, but the D drive still got 200 GB, now i suppose u would guess i want to use D drive and thats correct, but i need some advice on how to make the best use out of it
as we all know the documents and settings/ system32 / program files are all in the C drive, if i start using D drive will that have any impact when i try to install / run programs in the d drive?
From an outside view, the best choice will be to merge c and d drive together, i've come across a program called partition magic, but we are talking about a drive, not some files, will there be any danger in that? or are there other ways to do it?
Without having to merge the drives together, and i just want to save space, i have considered putting program files into the D drive and creating a shortcut in the C drive, will that work?

You could try moving your documents to one harddrive, and using the other for program files.
It seems like the method with the least effort.

Yeah do that because by merging drives together you risk the data...
So if you merge them together make a backup of the files.
And no you wont have any trouble startig e.g. games from D while windows is on C

You can do is move the default target location of your document to the D:\.
Next time if you save a file in the "My Documents" folder it will go directly to D:\
Note: In Vista "My Documents" does not include My Music, My Pictures and so forth. You will need to change the default location manually for each folder.

wait what? why are you merging drives when you can resize them instead?
procedures
- shrink D:
- expand C:
GParted should do that in two steps.
GParted can also merge drives.
this can be used in combination with kls85's recommendation.
you can also look into what they call "hard linking"...

Are these two physical drives or two partitions? If they're partitions, as stated above, use GParted to shrink d: and expand c:, move everything from d: to c:, then go back to GParted, delete d: and expand c: to fill the remaining space.
