I was thinking about port forwarding and was wondering can I port forward with a modem since I don't have a router?

Is it necessary to port forward when I'm playing a game since that games kinda lag because I think it's the server not my internet because I played other games and I don't really lag at all.

Is port forwarding only good when you're hosting something or can you use it to play online games or download things at any given time (not torrenting)

If so, how do I port forward with a 2Wire 2701HG-B ?

port forwarding is usually not very useful as any not shitty application should support NAT hole punching hax
