Hmm I'm not sure then, if the files were overwritten then they are lost forever, you could give this a shot though: http://www.piriform.com/recuva/features

I'm pretty sure if you reformat and reboot enough, they completely go away and no recovery will help. I had this happen when i made a partition and windows decided to install windows folder to drive C: and the boot stuff al to drive M: which was my music/videos partition. It sucked because I lost music too.

If you just accidentally reformat and nothing else, then you may have a change to get most of your pics back, otherwise the chances are very very slim.

I tried the programs in this thread, they did find some old pictures but they were only temp pictures from browsing internet.
What If I have the SD card I got the pictures from could I possibly get it back from it?

Wrong. You can still extract some data from a formatted hard drive. The quality varies, of course.
@OP: get GetDataBack from somewhere and hope you haven't reinstalled windows on your pictures, else they are lost forever. Only this program can help you now.

| Yes but I could not because my stupid install for windows over wrote it.

Restore them from your backup.

no, data is typically recoverable if you didn't write a ton to the drive afterwards.
