a false AV got onto my dad's computer, running windows XP. ive tried removing it with AV, but it isnt found. any help on removal?

I can assure you, this will work 100%. Hell malware bytes even detect a windows xp genuine crack as a virus lol.

SpyEraser - sounds 100% legitimate!

Not really; try the standard Add/Remove prompt, it's possible it's just spyware (Meaning, it most likely tricked your father into installing it, and it doesn't function as sneakily as a rootkit/virus or self-replicates as a worm).

That never works. I had something similar a few years back and it would just reinstall. Malwarebytes is a god among virus removal tools however. Something so powerful, and free, its god like.

Plus, MB's file assassin is awesome. Maybe he could get rid of it with that?

Did he run it in safe mode? I had a virus that was so raged against malwarebytes it wouldnt let it run. Running it in safe mode did the trick and let it find everything.
