Does anything happen if you let it sit at the hang for a minute? is it a complete system hardlock? Typically, you should either get a warning (or a BSOD, though vista / w7 are usually graceful about this) if your driver crashed and failed to recover.

Windows basically logs everything from a fart to system meltdown, see what the event viewer has to say.

watch your temperatures carefully as you play, do you get any visual artifacts or anything?

start -> start search -> type word

by the time you get 'eve' in, it will probably be the first hit.

53 sounds really low.

go run furmark, it WILL heat your shit up, fast. see if you can consistently replicate the problem.

Try running it in windows mode and use Tmonitor to check your cpu for any abnormalities.

Brown screen? I have a 4890 of which had a GPU clock at 900MHz, 50MHz greater than stock, and in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, I would occasionally get brown or grey screen lockups with looping sound. I was able to resolve this by dropping the clock back to 850MHz, because this was a known issue with that particular game with overclocked ATI cards.

Anyway, my point is that the brown or grey somewhat-striped screen lockups occur with ATI cards when something isn't right. I'd say it's definitely something to do with your new graphics card. As slovach mentioned, 53 sounds low for a 4650 and FurMark should provide a little more information.

Go to problems and solutions to see if the error report service caught anything.

As for your event viewer not working
go to services, look for a entry "event log" and
set the service to Automatic and click "start" to start the service
then click apply and OK

It's "Windows Event Log", not "Event Log". You're using services.msc to check it, correct?

My bad, I was using my XP netbook when replying to this thread and the name for that service is "Event Log".

Looks like MS change the name for Win7 even though they both do the same thing.

Under XP "Windows Event Log" don't exist.

Error 41: Kernal Power Error is just a generic error and it does not pin point what is actually causing the problem.
One person managed to solve it by upgrading his HD's firmware.
He has a Seagate, if you don't then it may be something else that's causing it.

Seagate HDDs suck horribly. Why would the HDD be the cause of the issue? I do know that windows 7 is very picky about faulty hardware. Much pickier than both vista and xp. But that doesn't tell me why the HDD would cause messed audio.

Go learn the difference between PIO and UDMA, then you will know the answer.
